Age of the American Revolution, 1763-1815

Through reading both primary and secondary sources, watching film clips, analyzing images, and LOTS class discussion, this course will place the American Revolution within the context of colonial demographic, economic, social, political and cultural development during the latter half of the eighteenth century.  It will focus on the tangible events of colonial resistance, forming a confederation, drafting and ratifying the Constitution, and splitting into opposing political camps as well as the intangible impact of ideologies such as republicanism and nationalism.  We will explore more specifically how women, Indians, blacks, the wealthy and the poor affected and were affected by the Revolution.
