My research interests focus on the nature of powerful learning experiences, design processes, social systems design, design education, and interdisciplinary inquiry. In these areas I have written several books and many articles. I belong to groups that are good avenues for students, practitioners, and scholars to connect with one another, including the American Educational Research Association, the International Society for Performance Improvement, the International Society for the Systems Sciences, and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology.
I recently edited a special issue of Educational Technology on the topic Innovation Over the Edge. The Introduction describes the concept of over-the-edge thinking.
On occasion, I write about issues in higher education, also. For example, an essay on liberal professional education can be found in the Documents section of this website.
