Richard Faria to Give Free Clarinet Recital at Ithaca College

Ithaca, NY--Assistant professor of clarinet Richard Faria, with pianist Charis Dimaras, will perform a diverse program of 20th-century clarinet music at Ithaca College on Friday, November 15. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

The program will include "Monologue: Impressions on The True Story of Ah Q" by Chen Yi, this year's Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition at Ithaca College. The Husa visiting professorship was created 15 years ago to honor former longtime faculty member and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Karel Husa. Also on the program will be a sonatina by Bohuslav Martinu, a sonata by Herbert Howells, and "Tierkreis for Clarinet and Piano" by Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Faria has performed as a soloist with the Guild Trio, Ariadne String Quartet, Seattle's Young Composer Collective, Atlantic String Quartet, and Ensemble X. He has premiered concerti written for him by American composers Steven Burke and Joshua Kohl. Faria has also performed with a number of ensembles, including the National Repertory Orchestra, Sylvan Wind Quintet, Apple Hill Chamber Players, Ithaca Wind Quintet, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Syracuse Symphony, and Manhattan Chamber Orchestra.
