Aging and Social Policy

This course examines aging-related social policy topics in more depth.  We begin the class by looking at some of the important contexts in which aging policy occurs - economic, historical, and demographic.  We also look at the relationship between policy and diversity of the older population.  We then turn to specific policy areas, including age discrimination, retirement, housing, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and long-term care.  We also study the debate about generational equity - are older people benefitting at the expense of the young?  The class often includes debates and guest lectures from local experts.
