Associate Professor Joshua Bonnetta is a Canadian artist and filmmaker working at the edges of documentary across installation, performance, and traditional cinema exhibition. His film works have been exhibited at the the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, the Institute for Contemporary Art London, BFI London Film Festival, Whitechapel Gallery, Berlin Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, American Film Institute Festival, amongst various other festivals, museums, and galleries throughout the world. His works have been written about in The New York Times, The Guardian, Sight & Sound, Art Forum, Frieze, and Cinemascope.
His most recent film El Mar La Mar won the Caligari Film Prize from the Berlin Film Festival in 2017 and is in the permanent collection of MOMA.
He has lectured and taught workshops at Goldsmiths, Birkbeck, University of London, NYU, Stockholm University of the Arts, and The Architectural Association in London.
Bonnetta received a BFA in Film & Video Production from York University, Toronto and an MFA from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
