Research

Research in the Gondek Lab focuses on the intersection of microbiology and immunology.  Our current projects are examining the impact of microbiome manipulation on immune responses to Chlamydia infection.  To accomplish this we use a variety of techniques in the lab: molecular/cloning, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, cell culture, animal work, bioinformatics, and gas-chromatography/Mass-spectrometry.

In a second project focus for the lab we are working collaboratively with other Ithaca College Faculty and the Puerto Rico Vieques Conservation & Historical Trust (VCHT) examining the microbiome of the bioluminescent bay Puerto Mosquito.

Within the scope of our overall lab directions, we tailor projects to the interest of the students, focusing on the techniques and skills the students wish to develop.
