The most important event in my life took place when I was a kid, when my parents immigrated from Portugal. The experience of existing simultaneously in two culturo-linguistic worlds shaped my interest in the complex relationship between language and culture. That interest, coupled with a love of literature, pretty much decided my fate. I received my M.A. & PhD in Spanish (Golden Age Literature) from the University at Buffalo. My academic interests include the history of Western thought, the cultural and literary shift from the Medieval to modern worlds, the Western-European 17th century and Cervantes.

One of the things I love about Ithaca is its remarkable support of the arts, and of music especially.
