Professional Experience

I began my professional media career working as the summer trafficopter coordinator at WBEN-AM-FM while attending college in Buffalo.  Later, I produced several programs for WGN-AM while attending graduate school in Chicago.  I later joined the Mid-West Family Radio Group and served first as an Advertising Account Representative for WSJM-AM/WIRX-FM in St. Joseph/Benton Harbor, Michigan. Later, I served as their Local Sales Manager of the AM station.

After moving back to New York's Finger Lakes Region, I held General Sales Manager and General Manager positions at radio stations located in Geneva [WGVA-AM/WECQ-FM] and Canandaigua [WCGR-AM/WLKA-FM].  Since joining Ithaca College, I have served as a senior advertising account manager for several area businesses through The Finger Lakes Radio Group headquartered in Geneva.

Teaching Experience

I began my teaching career as an adjunct marketing professor at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Michigan.  After moving back to New York, I was an adjunct faculty member for Cayuga Community College in Auburn and Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua.  For five years prior to joining IC, I was the assistant professor of marketing serving on the faculty at Keuka College located just outside of Penn Yan, New York.

Ithaca College Student Experiences

American Advertising Federation (AAF)

Our student chapter of this national trade organization has about 50 members and engages in activities throughout the year including bringing in guest speakers, doing pro bono advertising campaigns for local businesses and nonprofits (for example, Foodnet/Meals-on-Wheels), and the "Power Puff Football" fundraiser.  Check out their website at www.ithaca.edu/aaf for more information

Advertising Women of New York Career Conference (AWNY)

Each fall our local AAF student chapter takes approximately 40 members to this annual conference in New York City where students attend workshops and get to speak with advertising professionals to help determine a career path.

Ad Lab [American Advertising Federation National Student Advertising Competition, AAF NSAC]

Recent Wins: District Two Champions in 2001-DiamlerChrysler, 2003-Toyota Matrix, and 2005-Yahoo!

A senior-level course I instruct which competes in the National Student Advertising Competition sponsored by AAF.  We compete in District Two against 20+ other colleges in neighboring states.  The IC Ad Lab team, advised by Howard Cogan, won the nationals in 1993 with Saturn.

Check out samples of our student work found in the Documents link found on the upper left on this page or by just clicking here.

Research

My research interests include the areas of audience and client promotions, advertising sales management, nontraditional revenue [NTR], and station branding strategies in the radio and television industries.
