Richard Schissel

Professor Emeritus, Speech Language Pathology and Audiology

Brief Bio
Dr. Schissel came to Ithaca College in 1985 as Chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Previously he had been Director of the Program of Speech-Pathology at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. In 2000 Schissel returned to full-time teaching and clinical supervision. He was selected as Ithaca College’s London Sabbatic Scholar for the academic year 2000-2001 and spent the spring of 2001 teaching at the College’s London Center and travelling in Germany and Greece. He currently teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in the Speech-Language Pathology Program; coordinates the Minor in Integrative Health Studies offered through the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education; and teaches a new Ithaca College First Year Seminar in the history of medicine called: “What Was in Aristotle’s Medicine Cabinet: The Evolution of Medical Thought.” Dr. Schissel also is an accomplished Hypnotist. He maintains a private Hypnosis practice in downtown Ithaca (see link at left) specializing in pain management.
