Professional History
Before teaching at Ithaca College, I was senior/executive producer at News 10 Now. News 10 is a 24 hour cable news network based out of Syracuse, New York that reaches 600,000 people across New York State.
While working for News 10 I helped lead coverage that won “Best Spot News Coverage” awards from both the Syracuse Press Club and the Associated Press. I was also part of a team that won an Edward R. Murrow Award for "Best Television News Website."
Prior to working at News 10, I helped create and produce a highly acclaimed morning news show in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
I also have spent time working overseas, and currently teach a summer course focused on Travel Writing in London.
Academia
I started teaching at Ithaca College as an assistant professor in the 2005 school year. The main courses I teach focus on broadcast journalism. Those include News Writing & Reporting II, and TV News Producing & Editing.
While at Ithaca College, I've had the pleasure of advising the Society of Professional Journalists on campus. I'm proud to say our campus chapter has won two awards for "Best Student Chapter in the Northeast" during that time.
I also helped to create and design TV News Producing & Editing, a journalism course that focuses on working at a television news station. Each week students produce two live television newscasts within a classroom setting.
I'm also incredibly interested in the way online journalism is shaping and changing the landscape of traditional news media. I most recently presented at the Society of Profesional Journalists conference in Portland, Maine on this very topic. The lecture focused on what skills we as journalists need to learn, to use the Internet to its fullest potential.
I received my B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from the State University of New York at Oswego. I received an M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
