Patti Capaldi teaches the foundations of visual thinking, Two-Dimensional Design and introductory courses for Graphic Design in the Department of Art, Art History and Architecture. Prior to joining the faculty in 2015, she taught at Fordham University, Parsons New School and New Jersey City University, NJ. She received an M.F.A. in Print Media and Interrelated Studio from Massachusetts College of Art & Design, and a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art & Design in studio art. Her work has been exhibited in national and international galleries including Nylon, London, Lonsdale Gallery, Toronto, the Bernard Toale Gallery, Boston, Syracuse University Gallery, and the Johnson Art Museum, with work instated in the flat file viewing program at Pierogi, NYC  and Joseph Carol & Sons, Boston. Awards for her work include fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts (works on paper, multiples, book arts), and the Lily Auchincloss Foundation Award, a Gottlieb Foundation Grant, a Raushenberg Change Grant, and an AIGA Design Nomination. She has been the recipient of numerous artists fellowships and residencies including the MacDowell Corporation, the Millay  Colony, the Banff Center, Canada, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Santa Fe Art Institute, Jentel Foundation, the Saltonstall Foundation, A.I.R Vienna, and the A.I.R Kunstlerhaus Residency, Salzburg, Austria amongst others. 

For over 25 years she has worked as a graphic designer in New York City in some of the countries leading publishing and advertising agencies. She was nominated in 2018 for the AIGA, 50 Books, 50 Covers, juried design competition, and was recently included in Plymouth University’s (UK) Design Message Journal, Special Covid Issue. She is an associate professor in art and design at Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York. In her teaching she works with students to help identify their passions and bring their individual voice to the forefront through making.
