Thomas Shevory, professor of politics, and Patricia Zimmermann, professor of cinema, photography, and media arts, were invited speakers at the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture conference in Austin, Texas, on October 20, 2007. Patricia Zimmermann, professor of cinema, photography and media arts, has recently collaborated with photographer Michael Kienitz on a just-published book, Small Arms: Children of Conflict.

Zimmermann wrote the introductory essay, "Cartographies of Impossible and Possible Worlds," for this book of Kienitz' photography of children in the midst of conflicts and war zones in the Middle East, Central America, Northern Ireland, and the United States.
