This is Lisa W. Drew's second year at Ithaca College, where she plans to again enjoy the region's balmy winters. Before coming to IC, she spent six years in Fairbanks, Alaska. There she taught journalism at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and wrote freelance articles for national magazines and newspapers.

For the decade before she taught in Alaska, Professor Drew worked as a senior editor at National Wildlife magazine. She also has worked as a staff reporter and a stringer for Newsweek and as managing editor of Harvard Medical School's award-winning alumni magazine. As a freelancer, she has been a writer and editorial consultant for Web sites (ConsumerSearch.com and dna.com); an assistant editor, script person and researcher on documentary films; and a writer and editor on various other projects, including Harvard Medical School's first guide to intellectual property.

Professor Drew has edited or written scores of articles on the nation’s environmental issues--from the effects of livestock grazing in the West, to the ways toxic chemicals affect children more severely than adults, to the status of rare breeds of livestock. She has also edited or written hundreds of science stories, along the way following migrating birds in the Arctic, marveling at the extra suns and rainbows that ice crystals can make us see, getting closer than comfort to wild muskoxen in rut, and more.
