The Anthropological Experience in Hawaii
The Anthropological Experience in Hawaii field class is co-taught by Brooke Hansen, a cultural anthropologist, and Jack Rossen, Chair of the Anthropology Department and an archaeologist. We have just returned from the most recent trip, held Dec. 27, 2008 to Jan. 14, 2009. Amazing highlights included learning about the restoration of Native Hawaiian temples and sacred sites (heiau) with Mehealani Pai, hiking into Waipi'o Valley with our Native Hawaiian guide Eric Sills to do service learning in the wet taro fields, and watching the volcanic plume of smoke, ash, and lava spew forth from the Kalapana viewing area. Enjoy these pictures of our anthropological experiences!
