Summer Opportunities in Rochester!
Clinical Movement Analysis Course:
Quantitative Clinical Movement Analysis is a growing area of practice, especially in the areas of pediatrics and sports medicine. Ithaca College is the FIRST program in the country to offer students a course that will prepare them for this type clinical experience. This course is designed for high achieving and accomplished students. Additionally, students who complete this course will have an opportunity to select a clinical affiliation site in their graduate year of study at a premier clinical movement analysis laboratory. These affiliations are only available to students completing the course.

Are there Scholarships? Yes. This year at least 1 scholarship will be offered to top students. To apply for the scholarship send a 1 page essay of what you hope to learn by taking the course to Dr. Houck at jhouck@ithaca.edu by Friday, February 15, 2008 at 5:00 PM.
Can I work while taking this course? Yes!
How long will the course last? TBA - this year a 4 week course is being considered.

Students that successfully complete this course and the special affiliation have additional opportunities at graduation.
How to Sign Up?
Summer Registration starts in March. The first 10 students to sign up when summer registration starts will be admitted to the course.
Student Research Assistant Opportunities
Both Dr. Deborah Nawoczenski and Dr. Jeff Houck are working on funded projects in the Ithaca College Movement Analysis Laboratory. The projects vary each year from spinal cord injury to ACL injury to tendon problems. Student research assistants gain experience working with patients, data analysis, and research development. Projects may involve subjects with range of pathologies such as pelvic insufficiency fractures, midfoot arthritis or posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. The total number of Student Research Assistant position available for summer 2008 is not determined, but at least 1 will be offered.
Applications for Summer Research Assistant Positions are due on Feb 15th, 2008. Salary has not been finalized but it is expected to be around $2,200 for 20 hours/week for 10 weeks. Weekly times are arranged by project. Highly motivated students that work well independently are a good fit. Preference is given to students interested in movement analysis and clinical research. Applicants should submit a 1 page essay that focuses on 1) Why you are interested, and 2) What uniquely qualifies you. Note that for all applicants their GPA will be obtained from the registrar and comments solicited from faculty.

3. Selected candidates will be interviewed, by Dr. Houck (course coordinator). The interview date is yet to be determined. Input from other PT faculty may be sought.
4. Preference for interviews will be given to applicants who received a grade of B+ in the course they are applying to be an assistant in (Human Anatomy course (PTBS-31000)).
5. The goal will be to have the selection & confirmation of anatomy laboratory activity assistant appointments completed by Friday, March 7.
