Graduate physical therapy students from Ithaca College – Rochester assisted St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality hold a foot clinic for the poor Sunday, October 21st. St. Joseph’s House is located at 402 South St. near downtown Rochester. Clients regularly seek meals and other assistance from St. Joseph’s House. Keeping with this tradition, a team of health care professionals and volunteers assembled to wash feet, remove calluses, clip toe nails, teach exercises, and educate people who seek assistance from St. Joseph’s House. On this occasion over 70 clients sought care for their feet. Jeff Houck, PhD, PT and a team of four physical therapy graduate students including Laura Teeter, Katherine Lewis, Maggie Gallaggher, and Melissa Whited assisted with foot washing, foot massage sensory testing and exercise training for clients with diabetes, lower extremity edema and other general foot problems. The team is planning 3 additional clinics this year. The goal is both to encourage individuals to seek healthy alternatives and assist with the care of these high risk clients.
