Help find the lost ladybugs! Many ladybug species native to the Northeast are declining, including our own state insect, the Nine-spotted ladybug. We haven't seen a Nine-spotted ladybug in New York since the 1980's, and you can help researchers find out why. July 11 & 12, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Join myself and other ladybug researchers from Cornell University and Ithaca College as we collect many species of ladybugs to help figure out what's going on. The Blitz will take place in research plots across from the Tompkins County SPCA on Hanshaw Road. We will collect ladybugs and take digital pictures of them before returning them to the field.
We will supply the collection equipment, but you should bring your own water, hat, sunscreen, and lunch. Send an e-mail to ladybugblitz@gmail.com for detailed directions and more information. We hope to see you there!
