ITHACA, N.Y.—The Strategic Tourism Planning Board, a citizen’s advisory board to the Tompkins County Legislature, will present Paige Morgan and Lee Goodhew Romm—both faculty members in the Ithaca College School of Music—with the Tompkins Tourism Partner Award. Scheduled for presentation in February or March, the honor recognizes the benefits made to the region in 2007 by the annual conference of the International Double Reed Society, which was held at Ithaca College last June. Romm and Morgan were the hosts.
First presented in 2007, the Tompkins Tourism Partner Award honors individuals, organizations and associations who have made a positive impact on the local economy by attracting conventioneers and visitors to Tompkins County.
Established in 1971, the International Double Reed Society represents 4,400 oboists and bassoonists, instrument manufacturers, and double reed enthusiasts from 56 countries.
“This international conference was able to be held in Ithaca, thanks to the excellent facilities offered by the James J. Whalen Center for Music,” said Morgan. “We are fortunate that the college and the City of Ithaca could provide the services to make an event of this magnitude possible.”
In addition to being honored at the award presentation, the two faculty members will have their names engraved on a brick paving stone that will be placed on the Cayuga Waterfront Trail.
