Dr. Emily Mason currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in vocal music education, and is Coordinator of the Junior Vocal Student Teaching Program. She holds degrees from Florida State University (Ph.D., Music Education), the Ohio State University (M.M., Vocal Performance) and Capital University (B.M., Music Education). An elementary general music specialist, Dr. Mason has certification and training in several teaching pedagogies including the Kodály Method, Orff-Schulwerk Approach, and Dalcroze-Eurhythmics.  Before arriving at Ithaca College, Dr. Mason was a member of the voice faculty at Millikin University and Ohio Dominican University. 

An active clinician and researcher, Dr. Mason has presented clinics and research at state and national conferences, including the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE), the South Carolina Music Educators Association, and the New York State School Music Association.  Her research interests include preservice teachers, current teaching methodologies, the child singing voice, and students with special needs and exceptionalities.  In 2009, Dr. Mason received the Outstanding Researcher Award for a Doctoral Dissertation, from the Organization of American Kodály Educators and has been published in Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, and General Music Today.  She has also been an invited reviewer for Oxford University Press.  Outside of the collegiate classroom, Dr. Mason has served as an adjudicator and clinician for numerous state and regional vocal competitions and choral festivals, and is a frequent presenter of workshops on Music in Early Childhood, the Kodály method, the Orff-Schulwerk Approach, and Children's Choirs.   

In addition to her teaching duties at Ithaca College, Dr. Mason is involved with several community outreach programs, including serving as coordinator and teacher for Project Headstart (a collaboration between the Tompkins County Headstart Program and the Ithaca College School of Music) and the Ithaca College/Longview Intergenerational Choir (a collaboration between the Ithaca College School of Music, Department of Gerontology, and Longview, an Ithacare Community for older adults).  Professor Mason is also an active conductor having directed Children’s Choirs at Millikin University, Florida State University, and currently conducts the Senior Choir and Choraliers, in the Ithaca Children's Choir Program in Ithaca, New York.  In July 2010, Dr. Mason was an Assistant Conductor with the Ithaca Children's Choir as they toured cities in Austria (Vienna and Salzburg) and the Czech Republic (Prague). Professor Mason has also been an invited conductor and clinician for many All-County Festivals and in fall 2013, she conducted the Area All-State Jr. High Women's Choir in Cortland, NY.
