Don is a professor of sound design and technology for the Theatre Production & Design B.F.A. program in the Department of Theatre Production and Management. He teaches courses that include Sound Design, Sound Creation & Editing, Advanced Sound Design, Advanced Sound Technology, and Theatrical Mixing. He also mentors student sound designers and mixing engineers in departmental productions, capstone projects, internships, special projects, and independent studies.

Don is also a professional, freelance sound designer and composer. He has designed for the Denver Center Theatre Company, GEVA Theatre Center, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Signature Theatre Company, Hangar Theatre, Bridge Repertory Theatre, Illusion Theatre, Working Theater, and others. His world premiere productions include The Quick Change Room by Nagle Jackson, Thunder Knocking on the Door by Keith Glover, A Lesson Before Dying by Romulus Linney, The Venus de Milo is Armed by Kia Corthron, Disguises by Craig Warner, Call Me Waldo by Rob Ackerman, as well as Strangerhorse, The Two of You, and Selling Out by Brian Dykstra.

Don is an active member of the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) Sound Design Group, the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) Sound and Education commissions, and the Theatrical Sound Design and Composers Association (TSDCA). He has served as the associate editor for sound for the USITT Teaching Archive, on the curation team for the 2017 World Stage Design Sound Kitchen, as the sound design curator for the USA Scenography exhibit at the 2011 Prague Quadrennial, and as the USITT Sound Commission's Vice-Commissioner for Health and Safety from 2007-2015.
