Self and the Scholarly Essay (WRTG-32100) teaches advanced research-based writing. Students explore the relationship between postmodern concepts of voice and contextuality and practice the new academic esssay, in which personal perspective and autobiography inform scholarship. Designed for those wishing to pursue graduate careers in the humanities and sciences, this sections follows the development of the scholarly essay through four historical figures: Montaigne, Bacon, Voltaire, and Nietzsche.
