Charles Ciccone

Retired Professor, Physical Therapy
Specialty: Pharmacology

Brief Bio

I currently hold the rank of professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. I received my BS in physical therapy from Ithaca College in 1975, and my PhD in physiology from Rutgers University in 1983.

My primary teaching responsibilities are in the areas of physiology,  pharmacology, and cardiopulmonary physical therapy. My research focuses on the ways that pharmacology can impact physical rehabilitation, and the clinical implications of prescription and over-the-counter drug use in patients receiving physical therapy. I have authored several journal articles on the physiological responses to drug therapy, and I wrote two books: Pharmacology in Rehabilitation, 5th edition, 2016, and Davis's Drug Guide for Rehabilitation Professionals, 2013 (both books were published by FA Davis Co, Philadelphia). I have also written pharmacology chapters that appear in several other books, and I continue to provide continuing education courses that address how pharmacology is related to physical therapist practice.

I am currently a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, including the APTA's the Section on Research, and the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section. From 1990-2010, I also served as an Editorial Board member and Editor for Physical Therapy (Journal of the American Physical Therapy Association). I am currently a member of the Editorial Advisory Group of PT in Motion.
