Cristina Gomez

Cristina Gomez is an associate professor in Mathematics and Education. She is in charge of the Mathematics Teaching option program and most of the outreach activities of the Mathematics Department. For over thirty years, Dr Gomez has been working with pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers, supporting their development of content knowledge for teaching.

She taught high school in Colombia and worked at Universidad de los Andes, West Virginia University and The University of Alabama before coming to Ithaca.

Dr Gomez teaches the mathematics methods course for elementary teachers (Childhood Education Program) and the mathematics methods course for secondary teachers (Adolescent Education Programs). She also coordinates the professional development workshops that Ithaca College offers for mathematics teachers around the region.

She has worked with the New York State Education Department in the designing of the new content test for certification and in the standard setting process for the Common Core Tests for students.She has been a scorer for the edTPA Secondary Math portfolios. She was the faculty advisor for the Math Club, a student organization for any student at IC interested in math. She is part of the Tensor Grant, a program that  looks to support recruitment and retention of women in mathematics. She was invited to present The John Randolph Lecture at the MAA Seaway section in 2016.
