Welcome to Ghana 08 via Ithaca College International Short-term Study Abroad Program. This trip will change your life, it is so fantastic to experience another culture and it is also very humbling. Ghana is a great place full of beautiful people and yet filled with lots of suffering. You will leave this place thinking and viewing the world differently.
We will be housed at the Dagara Music Center in Media, West Africa under the direction of Mr. Bernard Woma and Mr. Sulley Imoro. You will study West African Drumming and Traditional Dances from all 10 region of Ghana for the first two weeks. The last week we will travel to Kumaski, Volta region (Ewe Village), National Forest for a walking safari, Cape Coast Slave Castle and to the capital city of Accra.

FAQ
What should I bring?
- Summer clothes, poncho or rain jacket (it is the rainy season in Ghana).
- Closed toe sandals
- Flash light
- Lots of bug spray
- umbrella
- Sneakers and long pants and long sleeve shirt for the safari.
- Video camera/tape recorder
Will I be able to call home?
- Yes you can make international calls but you need to purchase an international plan before you leave the U.S. You can also buy a phone in Ghana for $50.00 to make calls back to the U.S.
What Immunizations do I need?
- Check with your health care provider. The only requirement to enter the country is a Yellow Fever vaccine.
- Cornell University Gannet Center is very experienced with preparing people for international travels. You should make an appointment to talk to them about immunizations. You may reach them @ (607) 255-5155.
How much does it cost?
- Ithaca College students must take this course for credit either 2 or 3. There is also graduate credit available through special arrangements. The international studies program will handle the cost. You should contact them directly for information and deposit @ (607) 274-3306
Do I need a Visa?
- Yes you will need a visa to enter Ghana. In order to apply for the visa I will need to send a copy of your passport and 4 passport photos to the agent. We need to do this 2 weeks prior to departure. The cost is $75.00.
How much is the airfare?
- Tickets range from $1,200.00 – $1, 500.00 flying out of JFK. Depending on the number traveling we might be able to get an discount. You should contact Larbi at: Prestige Tour and Travel 212-779-8371
What are the dates for the trip?
- May 26 – June, 15, 2008.
Can I stay Longer?
- Yes you may stay as long as you like. However, Ithaca College will no longer be responsible for you once the program has officially ended.
