Astronomy is really a branch of applied physics. Even though most professional astronomers began their careers by studying physics as undergraduates, a large number of them made the decision to become an astronomer when they were much younger - some (like me) as early as elementary school.

There are a number of ways a budding astronomer can actually do some astronomy while majoring in physics. First, of course, would be to take the astronomy courses offered here. Second would be to become part of a faculty member's research team. Finally, the SPS (Society for Physics Students) runs Open Houses at the college's observatory. The links to the right will take you to pages where you can find out more information about all these options.
