Has more than 30 years of professional communications and marketing experience in corporate and government sectors having worked for three Fortune 500 companies and served in the executive and legislative branches of the Federal government.
He began his career as Manager, Public Relations, for Miller Brewing Company with primary responsibilities for its Miller Lite brand national public relations and marketing activities as well as crisis communications for Miller's 5 regional breweries. He also oversaw brand sponsorship of numerous professional sports events in tennis, bowling and auto racing. During his time at Miller the Lite beer brand won a number of Clio awards for its television ad campaign.
He was Senior Manager, Corporate Communications & Special Events, for MCI, Inc. where he managed its corporate news bureau, the 7 U.S. regional media & community relations offices. He directed corporate sponsorships with the PGA TOUR, Major League Baseball, Washington Redskins, and the Boston Pops Orchestra to name a few. He also assisted in investor relations and financial presentations.
He was Vice President, Corporate Communications, for wireless communications pioneer Nextel Communication, Inc. for 5 years overseeing national and international media and public relations activities. He also directed corporate sponsorships with the PGA's Ryder Cup competition, the USGA's Mens U.S. Open golf championships, the America's Cup competition, PGA Tour's Presidents Cup competition, the NFL and NASCAR. He was responsible for overseeing executive speechwriting and production of the annual report, and served as the corporation's representative to the Northern Virginia High Technology Council.
As Vice President, Global Communication & Marketing Strategy, for FLAG, Inc., a London-based data telecommunications company, he was responsible for strategic communications and marketing efforts involved with the company's 4 international markets - Europe (London), Middle East (Dubai), Asia (Hong Kong), and the Americas (Washington, DC). He directed the construction of the company's new website and the conversion of the employee's quarterly newsletter to a daily electronic version.
He served for 4 years in the first Bush White House as press secretary to William Bennett, the nation's first Drug Czar. While serving in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy he was presented the "Outstanding Achievement" personnel rating award in 1992 and the "Special Achievement Award" in 1991 and 1992. He also served as press secretary to U.S. Senator Robert W. Kasten, Jr.
Between his time in the White House and Nextel he was a principal in the Brennan Group. a strategic communications consulting group based in Northern Virginia representing AARP, AOL, Gemstar Corporation, MCI, Partnership for a Drug Free America, Skybox International and Washington Gas among its clients.
A sports fan, his interests are in lacrosse, golf, boating, hiking and camping. He resides in Ithaca, NY.
