Bio
Dr. Stewart Auyash is Associate Professor of Public Health Policy in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY. He served as Chair of the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education from 2011-2020. He also held appointments as a faculty member at the Ithaca College London Center and also as a Visiting Teaching Professor of Health Communication at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

During his time at Ithaca College, Dr. Auyash served as Chair of the Academic Policies Committee and was a member of the Title IX policy review committee.  He is also a  long-standing member of the Ithaca College Honors Steering Committee as well as on the Advisory Board and as the Keynote Speaker Coordinator of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival. He has been part of  the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance Leadership Team.

He is a member of the Ithaca College Honors Rapid Response Salon Team that organized webinars related to the pandemic in 2020-2021. He also initiated “Conversations on Covid,” an interview webinar with guests from the faculty and staff in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance.

Dr. Auyash researches and delivers talks on a wide range of public health and communication- related topics including the war on drugs and the overdose epidemic, pandemic responses and prevention policies,  comparative global health, public health communication, HIV/AIDS in international media, public health and the crisis of humanitarianism, the role of NGOs in the Western Africa Ebola outbreak, obesity-related health communication materials in Asian and Western countries, China’s shifting health communication strategies, and numerous topics related to SARS- CoV-1 in Singapore and COVID-19 globally.

He has delivered invited lectures in India, Norway, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. He presented at numerous conferences in Argentina, China, Portugal, Singapore, Sweden, Turkey, and the USA. He also served as a program reviewer for the IES Study Abroad Program in Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr. Auyash teaches across a wide range of public health and communication subjects. These include critical US health issues, health communication, international health and human rights, pandemic response policies, genocide, public health policy analysis, the wars on drugs, health narratives, international scholarly conversations, health lobbying, and the senior seminar on public health policy.  Most recently at Ithaca College, he co-designed and co-taught “Cholera to Covid: A History of Public Health” with Dr.  Jonathan Ablard, History Department.
